HIGHLIGHTS DESIGNER AND EXOTIC VINTAGE PURSES

Treasures and Pleasures, Gallery #20 on the concourse level is highlighting an exquisite collection of vintage purses. Carol Mirkin, gallery owner, says ''The most special find in my collection is a Morobito alligator bag from Paris, circa 1970.''

Carol also has an extensive selection of bags by designers such as Judith Leiber, Hermes, Gucci, Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Karl Lagerfeld and Roberto di Camerino. There are exotic skins such as alligator and ostrich, as well as hand-beaded bags from France circa 1950 and earlier. Stunning Judith Leiber bags from the 1980's lend sparkle to the shop.

When asked who her typical customer is, Carol replies, '' At shows it tends to be women in their twenties. At The Center my usual customers are women from the Upper East Side. Then there are the fashion designers who are looking for inspiration for the next season. People who purchase these purses are looking for something of timeless style and beauty. Prices range from $95 to $1,600.''
