THE HALL OF HOPE
FROM SMITH & WATSON
Smith & Watson, masters of fine English and continental antique reproduction furniture since 1907, introduce their truly unique Hall Chair, a meticulous reproduction of a circa 1815 antique. Originally designed by Thomas Hope, this chair was extremely popular in the early 19th century.
Hall Chairs were situated in the front hall of a residence. Messengers and tradesmen would sit on them, while waiting for an audience with the master of the house. The chairs were rarely upholstered because it was thought that their rough clothing might soil a fabric covered seat.
The Hall Chair is featured in antiqued gesso, a popular 19th century finish. It is also available in the same mahogany finish as the original antique. Graceful in shape and elegant in its simplicity, The Thomas Hope Hall Chair is a wonderful decorative accent to any traditional or eclectic room.
