THE VISION BEHIND GIATI
Mark Singer, president and founder of Giati Designs, Inc., is an award winning designer, inventor and sculptor. His internationally acclaimed designs have included collections of fine interior/exterior teak furniture, hand cast aluminum furniture, market umbrellas and sophisticated, deluxe all weather textiles.
Recognized for his meticulous attention to detail, Mark Singer is a master craftsman who has designed all the furniture for his own company, as well as other prestigious companies. Knoll, The Otsuke Group in Japan and Harvard Universitys Sackler and Fogg Museums are some of his commissions. He originally apprenticed with one of the foremost woodworkers in America, Sam Maloof, who is considered a national treasure. Subsequently, he taught sculpture and design at Harvard for ten years, while maintaining his own design studio, MSDS.
Mark Singers work has been represented at the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Additionally, he has won numerous awards, including four Roscoes, the Pinnacle Award, the Acclaim Award, the International S.P.E.C. Award and the Adex Award for his teak furniture designs which are now part of the Giati Collection of fine furniture.
Mark Singer has traveled extensively in Indonesia researching and procuring teak for Giati. His beautiful furniture designs can be seen in affluent homes and prestigious clubs and resorts worldwide. Grand Wailea in Maui, Jumby Bay in Antigua, Sonnenalp Ski Resort in Vail, Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club and the luxurious Bocara Resort in California are only a few of the venues.
A native of California, Mark Singer resides with his wife, Japanese artist Hideko and their two children.
